KNPV
KNPV is the short form for the ROYAL DUTCH POLICE DOG ASSOCIATION.
KNPV is aDutch government sanctioned examination,so that local k9 handlers can train and present working K9's at trials held in each of the Netherland provinces. These competitions are held on certain dates posted by the Dutch Police Force. K9's that pass these examinations (which have two levels PH1 and PH2 and a third slightly more specialized called object) can be placed up for sale by the owners to the police departments looking to aquire new K9 candidates for their respective K9 units Once a K9 aquires a KNPV certificate minimal training is required to prepare that K9 for deployment to the streets.
The KNPV K9's are considered (by those who know KNPV) to make up the largest percentage of the hardest hitting, most intense working K9's in the world. Very little is known about the Dutch KNPV program, outside of the Netherlands. It is still the only working dog title not allowed to be issued outside of the Netherlands. Fortunately with the integration of internet technology more about the KNPV and its K9's is reaching the rest of the world. However only those who actually go to the Netherlands and learn from the upper caliber trainers and handlers, are even remotely capable to comprehend and convey the Dutch training secrets to those of us who are not fortunate enough to be able to train in the Netherlands.
